Re: Dropped my gas tank today
Thanks for the information. I have a 1968 27 and had a rebuilt tank made. Now I need a sender but not sure the ohms so that I can order it from Tanks inc. Pardon my lack of knowledge but how did you find out the ohms for your tank? Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks again for the already awesome information.

Re: Dropped my gas tank today
I searched through some Mopar forums online and I found out that old Dodge's (and Fords) used 73 Ohm sender units. I can't say for sure that your coach does also but I think it's a good bet that it's the same.\nYou could try getting a few resistors from an electronics store and verifying the reading at the gauge by connecting them in place of your sending unit. For a 73 ohm system, a 36 ohm resistor should read near 1/2 tank, a 55 ohm near 3/4 tank and 18 ohm near 1/4 tank.

Great NFO... As RS has gone under, the chances are slim to none finding a small friendly electronics store...If one has the color code for the bands, one could ravage a parts tv, car radio, cb radio, tape deck or some electrical appliance and have the resistors to do the fix on the "cheap"...even though the resistor works either way installed...Great Idea.....\nDecided to get my own charts for this "fix". Which ever works for you. Here are three charts...FWIW & HTH\nBBB

Yea, I almost typed "Radio Shack" but then remembered that they are closing down.

Re: Dropped my gas tank today
I have the floor out of my rig and started in on the sending unit.\n\nTurns out the ground was corroded to the point of not working. I temporarily plugged a new gauge in to my existing rewired sending unit and it worked?\n\nI pulled it out only to discover that the float and arm had come off the potentiometer unit. This means it is floating around or sunk in there somewhere.\n\nI could not see it with a flashlight nor could I see baffles but I could see the generator fuel supply line on the aft side of the tank with the tip a couple inches off the floor.\n\nbuying a new sending unit but I will be using it with a new dash guage. ( making a whole new instrument cluster as my PO had taken a grinder to the back of the stock one).

\nOh man, that brings back memories. My father was a TV repairman(yes he had an ulitmate set of tools) in the 60's and 70's. When I was a kid he taught me the resistor code...\nBad Boys r*pe our young girls but violet gives willingly. Nice thing to teach a 10 yr old. No wonder I'm messed up...lolbadbillybiker wrote:Great NFO... Re: Dropped my gas tank today
77Travco, if the Sender worked low to high, you could just put a 15ohm inline to the gauge.
\nHmmm... Just a thought, could you still use an inline resistor but then reverse the wires so it is feeding the gauge backwards, that would depend on the gauge though. Either way, thanks for the pics and write-up\n\nAces, don't for get the tolerance band, (Gold, Silver, None) "Get Some Now"

Re: Dropped my gas tank today
ANOTHER UPDATE:\n\nAfter almost 2 years I have tinkered with it some more...\nI recently ordered a different fuel sending unit and it arrived a few days ago. Yesterday after work, I went ahead and dropped the tank again and swapped in the new sender. The old unit worked but was not accurate. After removing it and really checking things out, I concluded that during my first install, I had not set up the sender accurately. Since I had it out, I went ahead and installed another new sender. This time I went with a ISSPRO because of it's narrow design and the small access hole on my tank. The tank is 12" deep but this time I set it up for an 11.5" deep tank. I was very careful when setting up the sender unit this time around. I verified gauge readings at the dash to correspond with the float position at the sender before installing it into the tank. Looks to be accurate but a known measured amount of gas in the tank will tell for sure. I have it all back together now and will add fuel soon!\nOn a side note... I also ran a new 3/8" metal fuel line front to back. I will address that in another thread soon.\nHere are a few pics for your viewing pleasure...
