Sounds good. yeah the Travco 220 in my Avatar was the one I had the issue with. i used to always run hot in traffic so I out the fan in front of the rad pushing in and had it wired to a toggle switch but if I would forget it on it would actually block the air on the highway and cause it to overheat running down the highway.

Good to know, this is definitely going to be a work in progress. I am making tranny mounts now and hope to have those done in the next couple of days(very time consuming). So far all still looks good, using the Dodge tranny would make it easier for sure but I have had my share of issues with those in the past. Really psyched about the finished product, hope it meets with my expectations

Forgot to mention, as an FYI the 440 radiator has about 50 square inches more area than the 6BT rad has. Both are three row copper/brass construction. Hoping that helps some with the cooling also.

Re: Travco 270 getting a Cummins Diesel swap
Hi..this thread made my day..In my garage Waits a 96 BT-6 with an allison At-545 to it. It came from a Ford Flatbed truck.\nThis will help me a lot as I planning to do the same thing this Winter. My 270 is also a 1973 . My only concern is how to get the revs down. Been hutning for that 3,07 a while now and cant seem to find one..I will not start my Project until I got that solved out as i dont want the Travco to sit still next summer..I really would like to use the Allison because that will\nbe bulletproof I guess. Plan is to tow a car behind..\nIm will follow this with great intrest..\nTake care..\nMatz

Good to hear from you, If all goes as planned I think this is going to be a great conversion. I have noticed the relative rareness of the 3:07 gears as well. The guy that I sourced the engine from says he has extras so I am going on faith that he does. I have also talked to a reputable Dana/Spicer dealer and they assure me there is no difference in the gears, only the carrier and the carrier bearings. The Dana 70HD has larger bearings then the 70U,etc. You will need the 3:07 gears and the associated carrier if you have the 70HD and 4:56 gears as I do.

IIRC can't you use a spacer on the carrier.

Re: Travco 270 getting a Cummins Diesel swap
The difference in the carrier is in the range of gear ratios it will accommodate. The 4:56 carrier will only work with I believe 4:56 and numerically higher (4:88,5:38 and so-on). When they use a spacer between the ring gear and carrier it is to accommodate different offsets in the housings. That is if I understand it all correctly:)

Re: Travco 270 getting a Cummins Diesel swap
Hello again, what year is it on your engine? As mine came out of a Ford Truck I dont have the same engine mounts on the blocksides. I would really like to get my hands on a pair of these as it will save me a\nlot of time. Also my transmission dont have the e- brake but that would not be any trouble getting one I think..You are a great inspiration for this and I cant wait to start with my swap.I am currently\ntryin to make some room in the garage so I can fit the Travco inside,no snow yet but any day it will come.My engine has the oil pan the other way but I heard somewhere that you can turn it around\nand get another oil pickup? Would be glad for a tip on the motormounts..

Re: Travco 270 getting a Cummins Diesel swap
My engine is from a 1993 Dodge. I am using the rubber motor mounts for the Dodge which have offset studs. These fit between the Travco frame mounts and the Cummins engine mounts(at least the engine mounts used in the Dodge). I left my oil pan with the sump in the back and it appears to have plenty of clearance, but yes you can turn the pan around and change the pick up from what I understand. I wish mine would fit in the garage but it is too tall. I have 3 garages and have to work on it outside...something is wrong with that picture.

Hey was thinking about this today. What are you going to do with the Vacuum boosters ? Put a Vacuum pump on the Cummins ?\nI was thinking I wonder how a Hydro-boost setup would work and loose the Vacuum boosters all together ? I'm trying to remember what the Old C60's used because they Had those Fuelpincher Detroits and Vacuum brakes. Must have had a pump.
