Yeah, belly buttons!\n\nI've not heard anything bad about them except the expense. With our motorhomes, this seems to be the only way to get an OD and keep the parking brake w/o a rear swap and/or surgery

Yank the powertrain, put a GV OD on it (they have a casting for the parking brake set-up, which they replace the old set up with a newer contraption) and call it good...after some mods. There are always mods. C'mon, the wife drives a modified SC Buick Regal as a daily driver, LOL!\n\nLooking sweet and getting there!
\n\nA 47rh will bolt to the cummins and give you OD for alot less than a GV.\nFor that matter if you fond a bread truck adaptor for a TH400 you could run a GM 4l80 with a controller.

Won't a 47RH need a controller- and from what I know about Mopar stuff, there is no stand-alone. GM stuff, yes, Mopar no. I own 4 old Mopar cars, absolutely hate the lack of factory aftermarket support. I envy GM & Ford guys about that

PATC offers stand alone non-computer controls for the Mopar trannys. I put a link in an earlier post in this thread. I am going to use their set up when I Cummins my Cherokee. Eliminates the need for a computer which I like:)

Guess I should read all the way through, eh? To me, keeping it simple would be best- although the power and quieter operation of the 24-valve would be nice, from all the complications/headaches/costs/everything the 12-valver is the way to go from the diesel guys I've talked to...I've never owned a diesel vehicle.\nWith the 47RH, another concern is the parking brake set up- I have the funky drum off the tail shaft end. I know GV makes their own piece to replace that PB unit and barring an axle swap and running cable down et al. I'm obviously not that experienced with MH & diesel stuff.

Yeah you would have to lose the parking brake with the 47rh...\nNo great loss.. They don't work very good even if they work. It would never even so much as slow the RV down if you had a brake failure. IMHO it was a prop/showpiece. I had a few 270's and one 220 that they actually worked and at a very slow roll on level ground it might stop the RV. \nI carry wheel chocks for parking on an incline which in an RV you very rarely do as most of the time it needs to be level.\n\nThe problem with the 24v is you gotta p pump it and change the timing case cover etc and then alot of the 24v's you will find were the notorious "53" block which is known to crack and most info points toward heavy torque use being the main contributor.\nIe: Some guys have built 600hp 53 blocks and never cracked but 90% of the horror stories of cracked blocks were from guys who towed alot of weight..

\nI am not sure..I think the 518 was the non electronic OD tranny behind the cummins ??\nI think you can get a Stand alone but for the life of me I can't remember who makes it..It was expensive. Like 1000$\nI could be off on this. I don't know Dodge trannys that well, I looked into a bellhousing swap to put a 518 behind a 440. That is reasonably doable.

A-518 is for the 318/360 motors, while the A-618 is for the Cummins

Got a line on a Cummins 400 out of a dumptruck with 10,000 miles on it. I am way out my league on a project of this magnitude but it may be too good to pass up, IF.... it fits. Anybody know if this bad boy will fit in a Travco?
