1972 270 Restoration "The Mean Bean"
Im going to compile all ive done so far on the 270 in this thread. I got the "Mean Bean" from a friend for free if i got it out of where it was being stored at. I had to have it towed about 20 miles to my friends place who has a lot of land and who didn't mind me working on it there for awhile. It came with axles and wheels from a 78 georgie boy motorhome to swap it to discs and 8 lug wheels. Before I could tow it i had to swap the rear axle so i could put tires on that would make the 20 mile tow. I swapped the axle in the storage parking lot. i then swapped the front axle to discs. This weekend I gave the engine a much needed cleaning. The transmission had a 1/2" of oil sand mix that i had to scrape off with a putty knife before i could degrease everything. It must have a leak somewhere. Here is a before pic.
I created a shield out of my portable trash cans for pressure washing and also covered the carb and altenator.
I used Gunk brand heavy duty gel degreaser. I worked better than expected.
I also replaced the spark plug wires. I used a universal MSD set part number 5551. I chose to use straight spark plug ends, they keep the wires away from the exhaust manifold alot better than the 90s it came with.You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

This weekend I installed new spark plugs (champion CCH120). I installed a new drag link (moog DS881) the new drag link is a lot thicker than the old one.
Driver side Passenger side I installed new shocks (monroe 34853) and new energy suspension sway bar bushings. I also installed a safe T plus steering stabilizer that came with the axle i swapped in. The front is pretty much done now.
I then replaced the rear brake shoes, Springs, wheel cylinders, hub seals and differential fluid. I got lots checked off my list this weekend.
I had to relocate my front shock mounts because the shocks were hitting the mount. The lower shock mount on the later disc axle is in a differnt position so i swapped the upper mounts left to right. This weekend i installed a new B&M tranny pan and took the Mean Bean for a drive.
Here is the new pan. It holds 4 extra quarts. Here is a pic at the gas station It ran pretty good. Its still a little wandery on the road. im not sure if this is normal for these. Does anyone else have this issue?

Thanks for posting part numbers on the suspension parts you found.
As far as the wondering, on mine, once I got things tightened up, it did really well.
Did you check the toe?

I checked the toe about 6 months ago and it was 1/4" toe in. I need to recheck it though. Im not sure what the actual spec is but that seems like a good toe #.

I've been doing a lot of work on the old mean bean lately. This weekend I fixed the ugliest part of the interior. The bathroom had a window leak for years before I got it and the wall had some pretty bad damage. I was not looking forward to this but it ended up only taking 3 hours to fix.
Wall removed
I used a plastic wall board from home depot, I debated using a birch laminate and staining it but if this window leaks again i didnt want it ruined so the plastic won. It turned out pretty nice.
