Yes. If you have less than 13 volts it is probably not charging. That looks like a map light..Kinda weird. I'm wondering if you got a major bad ground somewhere.

12.9v at the battery engine off\n12.4v at the battery engine running\nAre the brushes easy to change and is it possible the voltage regulator causing the issue\nand that major bad ground you referred to even with the low v output still a possibility?\nthanks for your time sir

Your alternator may not be putting out... could be the voltage regulator. Check your battery cables to be in good condition and not internally corroded. Also check all your grounds to have good connections.\nSounds like either a backfeed due to a bad ground situation or a possible short where wires may have melted together somewhere.

\nI send them out but that's me. Just not worth my time to mess with them anymore. Check all the connections first them pull the alt and take it to a local rebuilder or NAPA and have it tested. Becareful taking it off. One of the bolts is really long and has a tendency to snap off in the head. That is not fun.

Just ordered an alternator and a regulator for a 72 Polara. Seems like a match.\nWhen I got a new starter it was specte for a Polara as well and it fit and works so here's hoping the regulator and alternator bolt up and function \n\nWell I got the alternator off and broke a screw which holds one of the 2 brushes in place so I'm going to locate a remade alternator.. Do you know what the amp rating on these is or any other info to help me locate the proper replacement thanks

I think it's either a 60 or 100. No listing for it but any good auto electric rebuilder can rebuild it. I'd almost put a leece neville or Delco on it. The Chrysler ones always sucked.

Electrical issues can be frustrating Since the start of bring this beast back into service when it showed no life signs what so ever I first got it to roll over and that was a big relief. Then eventually got it to actually start-up and run and most recently it's begun to produce enough electricity to charge the battery and run all the lights and accessories. \nRelapse -- A violent rain storm last night driving rain 60mph wind went on all night Went out to start it up again because yesterday morning after the new alternator installation with it charging and finally seeming driveable. Well it started ok and ran for about 30 seconds then quit abruptly and would not re-start. Checking for fire from the hi tension lead from the coil NO spark. Almost as though something blew\n\nUPDATE was the coil new one and back in business
