Is there a major difference between a 67 and 70 engine bay?

Unread post by JeepnJim » Wed Dec 30, 2015 10:42 am

I am asking because I have a 67 I had the cummins mounted like others have done and it seems the oil pan on mine doesn't clear the front axle, that's not a big deal I can notch the pan. What I am seeing is the lack of space for a radiator and intercooler. I have room for one or the other barely. So I didn't know if the older ones had a different arrangement in the engine bay. I know rob went with electric fans on his. I have a large aluminum intercooler from a newer dodge (junkyard find) I might consider cutting a large section of floor out and moving the engine, tranny, gearvender back 6"-8" and then have room for days for everything. But mainly trying to figure out the difference in the front ends of the two travcos. \nThank you \nJimmy

I have no clue... I have a 77 model 270 (M500 chassis) and can measure whatever you request. Maybe someone out there has access to both and can see a difference?

I ask cause rob did his cummins swap and had way more room than mine and I did the same thing with motor mounts.

Nessie is the same as 77's Travco. From what I see in the engine compartment to get an inline 6 in would be sliding the trans back. The bell housing is exposed in my engine bay.

Would an electric water pump and a electric fan give the clearance needed?\nWould a remote radiator be feasible? Some race cars etc use the remote setup...\nJust curious as implications of moving engine & trans rearward seems to entail a lot of extra??? work...\nJust an observation and opinion...\nBBB

Yes I can mount a remote radiator like I did in my race car. I am actually looking at the heat sink intercoolers used on the new fords. They can be mounted remotely in a fender well.
