need fuel pump #

Unread post by kingdome627 » Tue Feb 23, 2016 9:38 pm

Hello everyone. Got towed and my 1972 dodge Travco wouldn't start at the yard. Always ran fine. Would run on cup full of gas no gas was being pumped up to carb through clear filter. I have 413 engine. Any part # would be greatly appreciated. I need to get it out of there tomorrow.\nThanks,\nSean

Try Carter M6935\nor Airtex 6935\nProbably crosses to a NAPA#\nTha is for a 74 with a 440. I think they are the same. You could upgrade to an electric pump like a holley or something.

So I got my Travco out of the garage and onto the street. I was going to change the fuel pump and figured I'd disconnect the line and run a line directly out of a 2 gallon tank. She started right up after a few cranks and ran great. After warming her up for a few minutes I shut the engine off and reconnected the main line. It ran fine and fuel was being pumped into the clear filter. \nSo I am assuming that not being started for a while coupled with the front being lifted up while being towed caused all the fuel to drain back out of the line. How long should it take to prime the line for a mechanical pump?\nThanks,\nSean

It's a long line so a bit. Personally I think these benefit from an electric pump mounted as close to the tank as possible but I have not tried it yet.

I have an electric pump back near the tank as well as a mechanical pump on the engine. I have the electric pump on a toggle switch. I turn it on when first starting after sitting for awhile and for climbing hills, etc. If I don't turn the pump on when climbing a long grade under load, sometimes the engine will start to run out of fuel.
