320 with a tag axle

Unread postby 77Travco on Thu Jul 03, 2014 10:11 am

I was digging around in my picture archives and ran across this ad labeled "1980 Travco". I didn't know they made a tag axle unit. Has anyone here ever seen or owned one? There couldn't have been that many produced.

I know this reply is a little late... like three years..... .but that is a Travco 35' built by Foretravel after the company bought out Travco. I have one. Mine has an 8.2 GM diesel, Allison AT540 transmission and every option you could possibly imagine. Mine also has the tag axle with air bags. The tag axle carries about 6000 pounds when aired to 35 psi. It also has air bag assist on the front axle.

I figured Foretravel had something to do with it. I wonder how many were made and for what years? Very interesting, indeed!

It's the elusive Travco 350..
Awesome looking rig.
What kind of hydraulic leveling system is in it?

I did find a listing for another one a few weeks ago. I tried to contact the owner, but didn't get a response. Here is what he said, from his research: "This Retro coach is the ultimate of unique , it is one of one- the model number starts with -PROTOTYPE 3500 SBI- there were three built in 83 on a M400 chassis, for the company executives one ford one dodge and one the chevy- Mine (thats right a chevy 454 ) to decide on what dirrection Foretravel was going to go with the recently purcashed Travco line. It is the only 35ft I have ever seen with a tag axle. It was used in the promotional photos for the series(which I have). It is a custom coach that was $114,000 new , not counting all the add on's. It's all fiberglass, has new 454 (only 2000 miles) also radiator-carb-manifold etc -it has 99514 well cared for miles, I'm the third owner, have all maintenance records, it attracts a crowd wherever we go-it looks and drives like new, all walnut 90 in interior width-wood drawers on ball bearing guides-deluxe carpet and pad-padded ceiling-well insulated-dual roof AC's with heat-ducted furnace -central vac-ice maker- cedar closets-trash compactor- in counter liquor cabinet and motor drive for blender- queen size bed-neet digital clock with alarm- to much to list-newer frig(gas and elec) water heater(gas and elec) four burner stove - eye level convection oven-newer microwave-great coffee maker-AM-FM radio with 8 track , cassette, and CB built in- new batteries-tires-rear springs- air bags-brakes-air pump and tank- front drag link- has dual SS exhaust with headers-50 amp shore power-Alcoa wheels-Zip ZEE awnings-delay wipers- heated mirrors-6.5 Onan generator-search light-to much to list".

I guess mine is the Dodge chassis 350, but it has the 8.2 GM diesel with alison. Here is a picture of the one for sale.
