7.3 Diesel

Unread post by Franknsr » Fri Jul 28, 2017 7:39 am

I see a few posts for Cummins swaps, but has anyone ever look into a 7.3 swap? They seem to be readily available in my neck of the woods and reasonably priced. I've heard from a couple F350 owners who are getting low 20's MPG's, so I'd have to guess that I should be able to crank 10 or 11 out of one of these in a Travco.

I have seen pictures of one but I don't remember if it was a 7.3 or it's predecessor the 6.9. I thought I saw it on here somewhere but it might have been somewhere else. I will look around.

If you're going to swap to a 7.3 i presume it'd being a powerstroke (post 2000) with electronic injection. You'd then need the ecm and all the stuff that goes with it. I dont know much about this swap but read that they wont put out as much power or fuel economy as the cummins 5.9.

Yea, thought it was post 1999, but same idea. Really came across the idea because I was looking at an E350 chassis to steal the rear axle and front hubs off of. (But that is a topic for another section) The chassis has a 7.3 in it which I thought would be a step up. My biggest concern with the Cummins is the noise. Cost is a close second. :-)

The 7.3 powerstroke is similar in noise levels to the cummins.

I have loosely toyed with sticking a 6.5 GM Diesel in my 220. Only cause I have an abundance of them and a 4l80 is a good tranny.

Considered it myself. Have one of those in a truck out back. The International dt444e/ 7.3l Powerstroke is wider than a Cummins B. My Travco frame measures about 28" across. I don't think it would fit (in mine at least).

Well, the idea of a 7.3 is not looking so great now...
