Re: M500 Brake Drum Removal
When my rear wheel cylinders were rebuilt the shop bored them out and put in stainless steel sleeves... hopefully to prevent future rusting in the cylinder bore and keep them moving... since they sit for such long periods of time without being exercised.\n\nAlso, I would recommend replacing the brake springs and hold down hardware as well. I have a 1972 with front drum brakes and one of my return springs broke while braking on an off ramp from a highway in Myrtle Beach and the shop could not find me a new kit so they had to rig it up and the motorhome pulled to one side for the rest of the trip. The hardware may look good but in my case it was probably 30 years old the year it broke.

Re: M500 Brake Drum Removal
It looks like yours have star wheel adjusters like mine. If the drums are not out of round I wouldn't turn them. Some light grooving won't matter. The drums are obsolete and almost impossible to find once they are worn or turned beyond the limit. I don't know what the limit is. On some of the cars I've worked on it's cast into the drum somewhere but I'm not sure about the Travco. The wheel cylinders are available and are not too expensive, I just replaced mine. I can't imagine why someone would have disconnected the rear brakes, most of the weight on these RVs is over the rear axle so you kinda need rear brakes!

Re: M500 Brake Drum Removal
Hi... Could someone post a pic of that "star wheel" and its location on a Travco drum. \nI look closely at the presented pics and i don't see what others are seeing...? \nBBB
