1975 270 Disc Brake pressure not releasing

Unread post by diskman » Sun Oct 09, 2016 1:55 pm

Winterizing the 270 today and decided to run to the gas station and put in a few gallons and some Sta-Bil.. Noticed that the front discs were dragging.. Decided to turn around and almost didn't make it home. VERY hot and smoking fronts.\n\nI released the bleeders and high pressure fluid shot out of both. Was then able to drive to the gas station. Can still feel the fronts are not releasing all way.\n\nReplaced front flex lines and some hard lines last June 2016 with new ones. Also rebuilt entire rear brakes and hardware at the same time.\n\nWhere do I start looking for the pressure problem?\n\nIdeas?

Does it have vacuum boosters or Hydraulic(runs of power steering)?\nYour problem sounds typical of bad hydravac.

Could also be a an internally collapsed rubber brake line. I had that happen once on a 1 ton Chevy.

\n10 years they could easily be shot. Non use ruins them more than use.\nCan you replicate the brakes locking up ?\nIf the brakes lock up try opening the bleeder at the hydrovac and see if it releases. If no then possible hose. If yes, most likely hydrovac. Also if opening the bleeder on the hydrovac does release the brakes then try the test one more time but loosen a line at the master although I would doubt it's proportioning valve.

Ok! It was the brake pedal not returning all the way. I noticed a few times when getting gas that my brake lights were on until I pulled the pedal up. \n\nTook her out for a drive today and felt the fronts grabbing again. I pulled the pedal up about 2 inches and felt them release. Whew.\n\nlubed and greased the whole assembly underneath and it really freed up nicely! Now I don't have brake lights anymore.. Another project.\n\nposted from my phone so may be typos. Lol.

Is the spring attached to the arm?\n\nImage\n\nThe pedal return spring is in the left lower section of the picture.
