Re: 8 lug...
I don't think Travcos ever came with an 8 lug pattern. I have seen where people have swapped axles in order to get a disc brakes and 16" wheels. (16" tires are way cheaper to buy)

Yes, that's my interest... if we can get a 210.\n\nWhat axles do they use?

I honestly don't know what axles have been used in the past but I would just look for a parts motorhome that is very cheap. They are out there... craigslist is a good source for dirt cheap units that don't run, etc.\nYou could even find an old Frito Ley / breadtruck type stepvan and swap the whole Cummings BT4 drive train over to the coach. My brother did just that into a Chevy dually pickup.

Re: 8 lug...
I'm dropping a 4bta (aftercooled) into a ramcharger right now. It's a 4bta/47rh/205 twin stick combo. Won't get anywhere fast, but it'll do just fine. It's been a great build. Amongst the motorhomes I'm looking at is the Hall GTC and Chinook Futura. If I end with either of those, it'll be another 4bt swap. If we find a good 210, it'll be a 6bt. \n\nA few years ago I realized that they've never really built the vehicles I want... so I make my own \n\nI do like upgrading brakes and suspension if its feasible... and I like mods that make economic sense... like 16" tires. Stockton makes wheels, so I had also though of having some made in the 6 lug bolt pattern with a 16" safety rim, but I think if I can go 8 lug (the rear is easy of course) that'd be wiser fiscally speaking.

Re: 8 lug...
220's used the M300 Chassis which is a 1 ton. They were all 8 lug as far as I know. Very easy to get parts for vs the M500's in the 270's\nThe 270's cannot be converted to 8 lug easily. I supposed you could swap the axles out of a 220 but they would not be heavy enough IMHO for the added weight of a 270. As Frank suggested in another thread maybe using 10 lug out of something like a Ford Superduty 550 or maybe a Small jap box truck ??\nEventually we will probably have to figure something out as the 270 stuff is getting real scarce. NAPA is about the only one that still carries some of the stuff around here.

I thought this was interesting\n\nhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/greggjerdingen/58 ... /\n\nLooks like someone converted a 270 to 8 lug. \n\nI'm putting this here more for reference.

Re: 8 lug...
Interesting. I wonder if the 8 lug huns fit the spindles or did he swap the whole diff ?\nPersonally someday I would like to look into what frankid suggested with rear disk.\nThese things do not stop well. The later front disk models were better but I remember going down a long wInding road in the Poconos with my 73 and having to pull over frequently to let the brakes cool down and I am a CDL driver. I have driven old overloaded Mack Dm's that stopped better.

Re: 8 lug...
I know that guy- he is on another site (for FMJ-body Mopars) and I contacted him. I do have his email and he seems like a very good guy, maybe I'll talk him into coming over here!
