19.5 WHEELS...FOUND THEM !!!

Unread post by Glass8775 » Mon Dec 15, 2014 9:50 am

Ok guys, for all of us that have the 17" 5 lug split rims, here's the deal. the 17 tires are no where to be found and getting someone to put them on the split rims is just about as non existent. I found a wheel manufacturer who makes the 19.5: 5 lug BUDD wheel for us. They are $350/ea and have a 2 week lead time. www.wheelsnowinc.com I still think I am going to find a used coach on a '70's M-500 and strip it down. I should be able to find one with more to use than just them wheels for the $2100 it would cost for new wheels. Of course tires are still another $190/EA

$2450 for a set of 7? Ouch! :o \nYep, you could just find an M500 chassis coach out there somewhere cheaper and part it out. If I did order a set... I would ask for maybe a 6" offset so that a wider tire could be installed without the rears rubbing at the bottoms.

TNX for the quick answer... Well... as far as those being steel wheels go, Travco77 is spot on... For that sum you could/should buy a complete unit with the wheels of your choice including the correct L&R nuts etc. (I was hoping for an alloy wheel) If I see another decent deal, I wouldnt have any doubt about getting it and either swap or strip it... \nMy morals have gone...IMO\nBBB

Just got a quote from wheels now and the $350 each with 2 to 3 week lead time was the same but they also mentioned they have a source with a 3 month lead time that should be a $200 to $225 each. It is a long lead time but it is a good deal cheaper.

I think I'd swap newer axles in. When you factor the cost of the rims then tires and then the fact that the brake parts for these are getting pretty hard to find and will probably be obsolete soon that may not be the best investment. I'd keep looking at junkyards etc. Some Winnebagos used the M500 chassis as well.

Aces. If you find a set that will work I would love to know which ones. I do have a question. Has anyone tried a different set of hubs with a different bolt pattern? I was wondering if it was possible considering the Dana 70 is still in use.

8 lugs from a 220 would just about bolt in. The earlier 270's had them but the brakes were not sufficient.
