generator stumble

Unread post by highwaystar » Mon Sep 07, 2015 4:50 pm

Did some boondocking this past weekend and while using generator it runs pretty well with only a slight shudder every once in awhile, but when using ac it really gets bogged down. every few minutes stumbles fairly bad before it catches itself.\nIs the original onan 6000watt.\n\nBefore I tried delving into troubleshooting I thought I would get some input on normal operation.

Does the A/C work normally if plugged into shore power ?\nA 6K Onan should power an A/C with room to spare. Also how many cycles is the generator running out ? Have to put a Hz meter on it ? The hard start capacitor could be bad on the a/c unit.

I replaced the A/C unit a couple months ago. It works good plugged in. The Onan will power the a/c, lights, tv but stumbles every few minutes. I will have to check how to test the output of the generator.
