Newbie
Hi all I am one of the newbies to the group. Thanks Kenny for getting me up and running! I live in NW PA with my wife and daughter and we are looking for a Travco probably a 220. We hope to use it this summer and then install a Cummins 6BT and make a trip out west in the future. My passion is Jeeps and I have alot of experience with them and working on all types of autos. I have about 20 years in the building trades and am currently working at a local auto parts. We currently have 2 vintage Airstreams that are ready for restoration that we don't have time to complete so if you know anyone looking send them my way. I am not afraid to travel to find the right coach, just have to worry about paying for fuel to get home:)

Re: Newbie
I thought about a Cummings conversion myself but my 440 runs good so that is probably a long ways off. Welcome to the forum!

Re: Newbie
Same here. Had a nice long chat with Rob about Travcos. 6bt is on my wish list too when the 440 pukes.

Re: Newbie
Hey, I'm a Jeep guy myself (though overall I'm really just a Mopar guy...I love those 4.0's though), though now all I have is a TJ, having had a Grand Cherokee, a couple of XJ's and a 65 Wagoneer. IF I can find a 210, I'm figuring on putting a 6bt in it. I'm in the middle of a 4bt Cummins into an 85 Ramcharger, and now realize the 6bt would have been faster and cheaper, but I'm not too fussed. \n\nWe're looking at Travco's, Sightseers (PRF, not the Winnebagos), Discoverers, Xplorers and Hall GTCs. Hoping to check all of them out in person before settling on one. My druthers will be either the Hall or a Travco 210. Out of all of our list, the closest we've come is a rough 270. But plenty of time. I just want something together in the next 2-3 years. I figure I'll start collecting drivetrain components as soon as the Ramcharger is finished.\n\nI have to say the 12 valve Cummins is an easy swap as long as you have the room and weight capacity. I do recommend a 47rh though. The overdrive and lockup is well worth it (not that you can't get it in a 727, but still...) Only thing about the 47rh, is I recommend checking to see if it still has the 4 pinion aluminum planetaries. If so, switch out for the 5 pinion steel planetaries. And while you're in there (or whomever) you might put a kevlar band in as well. Some people slip in an extra clutch pack, but I don't think it's necessary unless you are looking to go to the truck pulls with your Travco
I actually elected to take it to a transmission shop, who did all that and a new trans pan for 450! Really though, the 47rh is almost identical to the 727, so it's pretty simple to work on, if you are familiar with them.

Re: Newbie
I have had more Jeeps than I can remember, my wife says I need a 12 step program! I currently have a 1983 Jeep Cherokee(fullsize) that I am gathering parts to swap a 6BT into although the Travco (that I don't have yet) may get the diesel first. We are looking for a 270 and we may have found a nice one locally but still looking. I was planning on using the A618 tranny from the '92 Dodge donor truck with stand alone mechanicals to eliminate the need for the computer. The 618 is supposed to be good for 19,000 gvw so that should be more than adequate it is the predessesor to the 47RH. My other habbits are a 2000 TJ, 1999 Cherokee, and an 02 VW diesel Beetle(wife's). Thanks for the info. Robb

Re: Newbie
i really want another cherokee(xj not grand cherokee). the last one i had for 15 years and 400k miles... but after a few deer collisions and my wife driving it into a bridge, i decided to sell it while it had some type of value other than scrap or parts.
