travco in alaska

Unread post by aktravcoer » Fri Jul 19, 2013 3:18 pm

hey everyone! Ive been looking into rv living for a little bit now, and about a month ago i made the plung from tent living to rving by buying a 1972 dodge travco! these things seem way better built than any winnie out there! Although I have many plans for making this thing suitable for artic living, it seems like its already got a step up on the boxy rv's. It was your typical old lady find, this thing is about as mint as you can get! It was redone in 2002, so a total restoration isnt nessesarry, but like any rv, it will be a work in progress. I tryed uploading a picture to my avatar, but it said it had too many pixles, not too much experience with the forum thing, but lots of mecanical experience! so hopefully someone will walk me through the computer part!

Welcome !!!\nI'll PM you about the Avatar. But basically you need to shrink the picture with Adobe photoshop or something similar.\nMax size for avatars is 250x250 pixels

Welcome to the Travco forum! Yes, "re-sized" pics work best here. Too big and they will not load.\n\nCongrats... Sounds like you scored a pretty nice Travco! Most people (like me) find dilapidated Travco's that have sat for years and need a ton of work. That 2002 remodel will put you ahead of the curve so to speak.\n\nIs is a 220 or 270 ?.. or something else? Would love to see some pics of it !

Actually I forget what I set the file size limit at but most forums are 3-400kb. I know I set it higher than that but I don't have a ton of server space. I'll see if I can bump it up a little more.

I think its a 220. the title and the little peice of paper glued next to the driver seat just has really long numbers that dont seem to corrispond to the 2?0 model system. Ive been looking at alot of pictures on the internet, and I thats the best conclusion I have come up with. Did a little more reseach into the paperwork I got with it, seems in 2002, when the previous owners bought it, it was 12,000 miles into the rebuild. oh no! lol! and the rebuild was kind of a relative term. they did put a new motor in it, its now a 360 (still a 2 barrel carb, thinking the carb is original?), and said they rebuilt the rear end, tranny and brakes (they bought it from a rv dealer). Its got new looking fuel and brake lines, but the master cylinder looks original. I think the interior is original, minus they painted some nice looking flowers on the cabinets, judging by the fact that the seats looked perfect, until i used them for a few weeks, and now they are all ripped up because the material was so brittle. I got the resizing thing figured out now (I think) so ill try and get some interior pic on here in the next few days. but yeah, thanks for the warm welcome!

No problem. The nice thing about the 1972 220 is the braking system is just a vacuum booster with the master bolted right to it. None of the hydravazc stuff like all the others have. That was the first thing I noticed about my 72.

If your drivetrain and brakes are good then you are WAY ahead of the curve here! :D
