Anxious Rookie

Unread post by 42itus » Sun Mar 13, 2016 6:58 pm

1977 32 ? I am about to purchase 32 model with the rear bathroom. I need a lot of questions answered. Thanks in advance. :D 440 motor with the original tranny. Brown stripe / ribbon but it has faded. Did all 1977's come with disc brakes upfront? What type of flooring is under the shag ( original ) carpet? It has an onan generator that runs. Clock shows 28,000 miles. Hydroboost brakes, what Am I looking at , for? Are exhaust manifold bolts still a problem? This one has single exhaust. Owner claims "new" tires??? Glass is all there but the fabric/ weather-stripping is shredding. Where can I locate the VIN dataplate for title accuracy? I owe the seller an answer/ offer this week. Regards, 42itus in SW Michigan

vin should be riveted to the radiator access door on the front and stamped into the right frame rail near the front wheel.

Is there a manufacturer plate on the interior? What other floor-plans were available? My concerns are, roof leaks, brakes, tires and drivetrain. Regards, 42itus.

Welcome to TravcoForum!\nA 270 is rounded in the rear (like a giant twinkie) and is 27 feet long bumper to bumper.\nA 320 is squared off in the rear (like a loaf of bread) and is probably 32 feet long bumper to bumper.\nTravco corporation used 1" marine board for the flooring base.\nFront disc brakes started in 1974 or 75 (I think). I know 1976 and newer have disc with hydroboost.\nTires have date codes stamped into them usually on one side only. It will look like this... DOT 4313. Which means the 43rd week of the year 2013, etc.\nI personally would stay away from headers on a motorhome. I am running mufflerless 2 into 1 exhaust with 2 1/2" pipe all the way out the back. It's not too loud unless I get on it. ;)

Going for s drive tomorrow. Most / all of the window weather-stripping is torn or frayed. Looks to be a fabric or cloth material. Can anyone tell me the height of the motorhome including the roof AC unit? I really want it to fit into my building with 12 foot overhead doors. The access door glass is cracked, any replacement parts or should I go with plexiglass instead? Regards, 42ITUS in SW Michigan.

My 1977 Travco 270 is about 10' 8" to the top of the AC unit with 8R19.5 tires.
