Crank UR 318 up to 400HP

Unread post by badbillybiker » Sat Apr 05, 2014 11:42 pm

Was thinking about all the Travcos I have seen listing as power a 318 CU IN motor \nand happened to remember I had an article about raising the horsepower economically....\nEnjoy reading about the reality of a 400 HP Travco with a "lowly" 318 in it.\nBBB

These articles are cool but didn't the Travcos always use the 318 Poly engine and not the 318 LA engine that came out in cars starting in 1967?\n\nHere's an article about making a 318 Poly into a 402 cubic inch stroker that makes around 400 hp and over 400 foot pounds of torque. They do it by using a 4" crankshaft which fits both the LA small blocks and Polys and by giving the 318 Poly a .090" overbore which apparently is OK with 318 Poly blocks.\n\nhttp://www.hotrod.com/articles/mopp-0110-how-t ... \n\nHere's a link to a pretty inexpensive stroker kit:\n\nhttp://chryslerpower.com/webstore/Poly
