Forum closure

Unread post by Acesneights » Fri Jan 14, 2022 9:26 am

It is with deep regrets that this will be the last year of Travco Forum. I already paid most of the fees for this year and they are not refundable so I have locked the forum to new members. I would suggest current users copy any info frommthese pages as 1 year from now the forum will be taken down.
I started this forum over 9 years ago with Marks help wo was a moderator from Dieselplace. He asked if there was even enough interest to start one. My reply was if we got 50-100 users signed up and 10-20 active posters I would be happy. We surpassed 700+ legit users at one point . I never wanted this forum to be influenced by advertiers etc and paid for it all these years from my own pocketmand the staff has put in countless hours for free.
Like everything else Discussion Forums have gone the way of the dinosaur. Everyone these days goes to shitbook and makes Mark Zuckerberg even richer. But that is the way it is and since the interest here has dwindled, This will be the last year it’s up. If we get attacked again, I will close it down sooner.
Thanks to all those that supported us in the beginning and espcially our mods and tech staff. Without them, none of this would have happended.

It was a good run but hell the spammers over ran us and new users just did not post much. I will have to see what I can save from Old Billys posts. There was an incredible amount of data shared by him.

I am very sorry to hear that the forum will be shutting down, I have learned an awful lot from it. You all have done a great job of answering the questions that come up with owning/maintaining/restoring a vintage Travco and that is greatly appreciated.

I agree about Fleabag. It is a terrible place to try and solve a mechanical problem, you end up with a bunch of know nothings trying to prove it. And giving money to any of the selfish billionaires, which is all of them, makes me ill. None have done a single decent thing for humanity, many help teardown decency.

I don't know if it is possible for you to copy posts to a thumb drive or how much data that is but if you are saving files I would be interested in purchasing a copy of those you feel are worth keeping.

Thanks for what you the Admin/Owner and the members have given me.

Brent

Hat off to all of you who put in the work and $ to make this reasource the go-to. Thanks specifically to Ace for showing me around his Dad's silver and blue Travco years ago and telling me "they're always worth it" and to not give up on my 73270 improvements. Still a ways to go on that but giving up isn't the American way. May all the men and woman who worked sourcing, building, selling, and servicing machines like these be honored by those who have sacrificed to keep them on the roads. Easy rolling to all in 22.

Well, the renewal date is today. I put alot of work into this personally and have funded it myself without sponsors. The cost although not alot has doubled. That being said we lost alot of users to the FB pages as have most forums and we had a massive spam attack last year that took days to clean up and I had to lock the new membership feature.
So, I have decided to give it one more year. I love Travcos and feel there is alot of good information on this site and my financial situation is a little better for now so anyone who wants to sign up must email through the forum and I will add you personally.
I can’t stand Facebook in general so we’ll give it another year.
I put alot of work into this building this forum and the layout and the staff are all volunteers whom without, I could not keep it running.

Glad to hear it is continuing. I had stopped checking it a month back when I could not get it to open up, I made the mistaken assumption that is had gone. There is a ton of good information here and it would have been terrible to have lost it. Can new member come here to send the sign up email? Are we going to try and grow it again?

Yes, I am going to open the membership up with admin approval only until we get the spamming sorted. Also I think we will add a FB group page for the forum. I should have done it when I started this 10 years ago.

I would be happy to donate to the cause to keep the machine running ... thank you for opening it back up for us! PM me some details, there's no reason you should foot the bill solo. Maybe there can be a "store" button somewhere with the ability to offer site donations? I'm sure I won't be an outlier ... but I'm just spitballing some ideas.
