Sounds like a big project either way. I think that a complete engine and tranny with complete harness and computer would be the way to go here. I would prefer to use a 6.4 Hemi out of a heavy duty truck once they start showing up in wrecking yards.

Do the later (4.7 or hemi) enignes still use the old LA bell housing bolt pattern?
If so there is an adapter kit for the A518 to the 440. The A500/518 did not have the B/RB bellhousing but used the LA bell.

From my looking
  • a small block 727 any 318/360 will bolt up to it as previously stated. Even the newer Magnum engines. Also the 5.7 Hemi will bolt up to it not sure about the 4.7 motor
  • 318 and 360 engines use different torque converters due to the balancing of the engines. You can either weld 360 balance wieghts on a 318 converter for a 360 or knock the weights off the 360 converter for a 318
  • should also bolt up to a 3.9L V6

Two companies are working on 8HP<>BB adapters ( JVX Racing for one), and 4 now have standalone controllers available.
http://soundgermanautomotive.com is what I'm leaning towards.
I bought an 8HP70 from a wrecked 2015 Hemi RAM1500 2WD, with shifter.

I have been watching this myself but if I go the 8hp route I may see if I can get a 5.9 Cummins set up with it. My 727 still does well and am unsure if I want to go any faster in the old girl.
