Will this axle work

Unread post by chuckisalady » Mon Oct 29, 2018 9:39 pm

I have a 1968 270. We have had a hell of a time finding a rear assembly for our girl. I found a dana 70 that had drum brakes off a early 70's dodge motorhome (exact model unknown). It's an 8 lug 4.10 gear ratio. Our Travco is a 5 lug with I believe a 4.56 gear ratio. We still need to so some measuring on length, but will the 8 lug work or how hard will it be to transition?\n\nAny other pearls of wisdom on how did our busted axle would be much appreciated!!!!

I installed an 8 lug dana 70 non HD in my 270. it was pretty much a direct fit. http://www.travcoforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1203

Might as well open the can of worms and swap in a front disk brake axle while your at it. If not then maybe carry a tire plug kit and a decent 12 volt air compressor instead of 2 spares.

I think if I were to go that far I would try for a Dana 80 rear and find a front axle with the same lug pattern.
