What are the largest wheels/tires available for the Travco to alter the final drive ratio?\nWould that not be cheaper than a GV or a rear axle change trying to raise the mpg.?\nI dont want to state another alternative yet. would like to beat this to death first...

There is not a ton of clearence in the wheel wells for much taller tires not to mention they would probably add to the height(minimal) and alot to the sway. GV is a good option if you can find a used one but I personally would go for the 518 swap.\nI would think you would need the have the 19.5 tubeless rims to even consider it and then you need to watch width of the tires on the rear as the rims on these are narrow.\nI don't think you could add enough diameter to the tire to make any noticeable difference.

Well... Went to the Mopar site and it sounded very discouraging to get a "518" trans\nto fit against a 440 cui. motor to haul a travco and complain about trying to fit a \ntrans in a spacious area underneath a motor home.....\nHere goes... A modded rim with 22.5 radials as used on a truck or possibly a school bus?\nor as an ex ups road driver i am always scoping out all kinds of equipment and now\nam noticing UPS package trucks switching some of their rear dual tires for\na single one, double-wide replacing the dual tires. UPS is a company constantly looking for cutting \ncosts and improving their fleet mpg... You can always have the rims indexed and re-drilled to\na 5 bolt pattern... rear wheel wells can be enlarged easily and keep the 19.5 for the fronts...IMO\nAm I peeing into the wind on this?

The 518 would probably be cheaper. The bellhousing conversion wasnt that bad pricewise and looked pretty straight forward.\nCustom rims get expensive fast and 22.5r start at around 250$/tire for a decent brand. I would not run caps.

HHmmm. Alternative or results...\nThought there was a post here where one had\nmentioned 4:10 rear gears in his dana 70... \nHow much would this drop rpms at a steady 60 mph\nand what percentage of savings in gasoline\nwould be realized? Anyone know?\nAs the 55 National Speed limit fiasco is over\nisnt it about time to crank'er up a notch or two??\nWhat would the "best" alternative ratio... \nWanna' burn some gas up before it all goes to the\nurkraine and we're short on gas once again :?: \nBBB

I don't think 4:10 will make a huge difference . A little but not earth shattering.

Here goes... against my better judgement... \nStating my earlier statement on an alternative..\nHow about a stick shift Travco...?\nAnyone here done one?..\nBBB

Looked at the Hone O Matic, been out of production for over 30 years... Gear Vendors is pricey but cant find out if the price includes installation and if there are "branches" that would install or it mandates a trip to the W.Coast... \nFound this little item as I was looking for a 727 OD replacement and thought of sharing and looking for input,\n and if it goes or blows...and also another item with another type swap...\nA 727 trans to a A518... sorry forgot the 8 on the pic...FWIW\nBBB
