Soliciting Furnace Suggestions

Hi, my 73 - 270 has had the furnace removed. I'm considering replacing it with a ducted furnace, but have no idea how many BTU's I need. I have heard from another Travco owner that Travcos aren't as drafty as conventional RV's and so don't need as much heat. Anyone have any comments? Anyone know how many BTU's the original furnaces put out? Are they effective? It looks like a modern conventional RV (medium to large) required 30k+ BTU's. I'd appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!

From what I have found in old manuals travco used a 22,000 BTU unit in the 270s.

I use a Buddy heater (1 bottle) works fine... Optional hose and filter for feeding off a main propane source. There is the Big Buddy that holds two bottles and has a d cell fan/blower or optional power supply..They have a brass unit from HF for about 19.00 that allows refilling one pound bottles from a 20 ooppss... now a 15 pounder grill tank or will feed from the Travco tank... The price is right and has a oxygen shut off...A budget fix"..On U-tube are camper demo's using the Mr heater propane units. I also have an optional stainless grill attatchment sold by a michigan company that hangs onto the front of my heater for cooking and heating coffee...well made and fits both heatrers...great also for winter camping and ice fishing... FWIW..\nBBB

The 77 Travco 270/290/320 parts book lists 25,000 and 30,000 btu's. I suspect they used the 25,000 btu in the 270.\n\nDave

My RV parts guy down in Chehallis WA says a rule of thumb is 1,000 BTU's per foot of RV.\n\nRob

I am probably going to eliminate the propane furnace in my travco remodel since I am going with a combination of pellet stove and electric heaters. It's the original system and fully functional if someone wants the old furnace for a reasonable price.
