Yes aluminum transfers heat faster than cast iron BUT it also sheds heat quicker. In other words it cools down alot faster too. My problem wasn't while driving with heat being transferred to the carb because the intake air is keeping it somewhat under control. The problem was on shutdown the cast iron intake would be very hot and that heat would keep radiating to the bowls, not through direct contact because I was using a 1/2 phenolic spacer for quite some time. In other words It didn't start boiling the fuel immediately upon shutdown. It would take about 10 mins. Also I noticed right away when I pulled into the rest areas it was idling perfect and I had a very noticeable improvement in acceleration smoothness and idle. The only thing left to do is insulate the fuel lines. I noticed they are getting very hot as well.\nThe only thing bad noticed was it took a minute or two longer to warm up and ran a bit rougher cold but a small trde off and the Edlebrock 2191 Performer I used is a dual plane made for low RPM Truck torque application.\nLet's not forget though that blocking the exhaust ports to the intake played a role in solving my issue.\nIt is running much much better and I noticed almost 2-4 mpg increase although that may not be fair as this trip had less hills than the last trip but I got about 10 mpg this trip. I was getting about 6 before.

This was the intake although the graph shown would be in accurate as I am not running headers(nor would I ever on this) or the Cam they recommended. Still the Intake iis the correct one. It was a bit of a bitch. I have heard of guys egging out the holes a bit. It is very tight getting the bolts to line up. Otherwise swapping the intake was a breeze as it's a dry intake. If you have A/C you can pry the bracket up just enough to get the intake in and out.\nhttp://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-2191/

In all honesty If I had intentions of keeping it a gasser I would look into fuel injection but this motor has 99k on it so it's life is nearing an end I suspect and a Cummins will be it's replacement.

Once it warms up, is there any difference in over all drivability? I wouldn't have expected the mpg to increase but anything is possible. I believe that my thermoquad will bolt directly onto that intake... May be a future project for me!

I didn't try the Tquad but the Holley I am using was a direct replacement for it and a spreadbore so I see no reason it would not work. It runs much better .

Here's some pics. You can see the temps 1/2 hr after I removed the intake.

So, I am curious as to how you are liking your carb/intake setup?\n\nI am now needing to rebuild my Thermoquad but I may just buy this reman unit from Summit. http://www.summitracing.com/search?Sort ... sum-210236

Pretty good overall. I still get a smell of gas once in awhile after hot shutdown but no starting or performance issues.\nAs far as the Carb from Summit, that is a good deal. My builder wanted 299$+Shipping.\nI can personally speak for Summit Racing's customer service as well. I have never had ANY issue returning stuff through them.\nNot sure who is doing their re man's but I think Holley used to. In any case, I did not see anything about a core charge so sounds to me like you get to keep your old one as a bonus. I'd do it.\nI can tell you I felt an immediate performance increase with the new intake. That cast iron one is a boat anchor IMHO.

Currently my carb is dumping way too much fuel... I can see gas pooling in the bottom of the intake and starting the engine is getting ridiculously hard.\n I would really like to go with an aluminum intake AND a remanufactured Thermoquad but I can't seem to find an intake that will accept that carb. Otherwise I will order a reman Thermoquad soon and just bolt it onto the old cast iron intake.

The intake I used will should take a Tquad. I use the Holley Spreadbore on it now. It has both bolt patterns and will accept either Spreadbore or square. It's a performer. I wanna say model 2191 but I have to double check.
