40s Ford Transit Bus

Unread post by rcb » Thu Jan 15, 2015 3:11 pm

This is pretty close to me. Spoke to the business manager there. The owner who lives a couple states away wants to get rid of it. \n\nIt's only about 25 feet long, but I have no idea what it is. It was converted in the 70s and at the time you can tell it was big money. too bad the interior is now so rough after sitting for however long. Anyhow I'd just like to know more about it. Anyone got info?\n\n

would presume it to be a gas stick shift pusher like a Flxibile..(Those used straight 8 buicks) The saving feature is the flat glass. If one part was broke, it would be mission impossible.. Kind of reminds me of a west coast manufactured Gillig... Any NFO on/from the VIN?\nBBB

I can't find the vin plate. It has paneling all over the interior and what looks to be a custom padded dash (the guy said it was converted in the 70s) I'd have to know exactly where it is. I know on many buses it's either right by the door when you walk in or beside the driver. Unfortunately both areas are paneled over. It has some absolutely beautiful upholstery work inside however (no joke) I imagine if someone started to clean it, it might just come apart. Ive drove by it for many years but never thought the guy would be interested in selling it. He was definitely interested.\n\nWhen I peaked in the engine bay, it looked to have a diesel filter on it though. I may try to swing by tomorrow and get my wife to look at it. I'm wearing her thin on this RV stuff. She likes the idea, but tires at me throwing options at her.

An update,\n\nA fellow from across the pond I think has correctly ID'd it. A now believe it to be a Ford Transit bus, with a Union City body, and then obviously the conversion. Looks like someone put custom headlights on as well and put shields over the vents, but all in all I think that's it. Inside, I can make out where the second door would have been.\n\nI got more pics.\n\nhttps://plus.google.com/photos/103049176717156285327/albums/6104595006889575745\n\n<embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="https://photos.gstatic.com/media/slideshow.swf" width="288" height="192" flashvars="host=picasaweb.google.com&hl=en_US&feat=flashalbum&RGB=0x000000&feed=https%3A%2F%2Fpicasaweb.google.com%2Fdata%2Ffeed%2Fapi%2Fuser%2F103049176717156285327%2Falbumid%2F6104595006889575745%3Falt%3Drss%26kind%3Dphoto%26hl%3Den_US" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></embed>

Yes. The interior is toast, but the body and mechanicals look solid.
