My 1975 Travco 270

Unread post by Acesneights » Tue Jan 22, 2013 10:25 pm

Just picked this one up in Ipswich Mass. A measly 3250$ ..It Sat inside a heated body shop for 20 yrs.\nI brought an outboard motor tank I have with an electric fuel pump mounted to it and hooked it up with a fresh battery. It cranked but no spark. I poked around a little and the ignition module was literally melted. It had oozed down the bellhousing. weird. I plugged another one in and it roared to life. The carb was decent. The accelerator pump was stuck so it had a major flat spot but I freed it up with some WD40. It had brakes but didn't stop great. The rear brakes are apparently not working.

So I started pulling the cabinets tonight. My cousin is a woodworker. He thinks the finish is lacquer over stain so we are going to try lightly sand them and see what the stain looks like. He suggested just painting them but I like the natural wood look.\nI got the heat working last week but the propane tank is leaking from the valve around the stem packing and also the side pug and the bleeder where it threads into the tank. Someone had painted the tank and I guess they did not seal the fittings properly with Gas rated sealant as it appears to be dried up. I had my gas guy only put 5 gals in so I'm gonna burn that off(pretty easy to do...It's -15f right now at night). Then I'll reseal the plugs and replace the valve. I got some really good leak finder spray from some guys I know at the Local Gas Company. Stuff works good at finding leaks. Looks like windex. I do recommend referring gas repairs to a professional if you are not experienced with working with it. Gas goes boom...

This is the fridge area. When I got it it had a small electric bar fridge booged in. Thing I wonder about is if it ever had a gas/electric fridge. There is no gas line. Also no outside access door. I may cut one in the side of the camper. I did that with my 1973.\nAlso the dinette area was replaced. Looks like someone got some cushions out of a travel trailer and then made the wood. Not a bad job actually but I don't like the back paint. I may veneer them and trim off with button tuft.

Worked on the cabinets some more...This is gonna take awhile... The doors are the worst. The corners on the raised panels. My cousin thinks they are mahogany. Travco sure used some nice wood.

Just fyi... As far as I can tell, my fridge is only electric. I will look closer when I get back to Texas but I don't think gas was an option for it.

yeah, been trying to figure that out. It does not look to me like it was ever plumbed for it. I am putting a gas one in though for sure.
