Re: Travco 270 getting a Cummins Diesel swap
Rob I am doing the same swap. I am kinda slow do to my schedule. This is where I am at so far. 1990 cummins in, tranny in, gearvender splitter in, drivelines made. Now it's time to make room for the radiator up font, plumb it wire it, and notch the oil pan for the front axle. In your video I didn't remember if you had to do that too.

Re: Travco 270 getting a Cummins Diesel swap
Hi Jim, I did not need to do anything to the oil pan as I had lots of clearance there and over 7000 miles later have had no issues. As far as the radiator goes I used the stock Travco radiator which had 50 more square inches than the Cummins rad. And the same number of rows of tubes. That made life a lot easier and the intercooler pipes ran past both sides. It takes time but it sounds like you are well on your way. Good luck and do not hesitate to ask if you have more questions, I will help if I can. Robb

Thanks for the reply. I didn't get the radiator with the motorhome, it was not a runner when I got it. I will do some investigating on the oil pan befor I cut and notch it. As for the radiator I have the stock truck radiator. And as far as fans your electric fans are keeping up?

\nRobb did you have lots more room? I wonder if there is a different oil pan for 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive trucks

Re: Travco 270 getting a Cummins Diesel swap
Jim as far as I know there is no change in the oil pan between 2wd and 4wd, however there is a front sump pan available from Cummins. I think there may be something about changing the oil pick-up as well, possibly even just moving your pick-up. that may be much easier than cutting the pan. I do have much more room between the the axle and the pan, I also noticed that the hole in front of the radiator is quite a bit larger on my unit. Mine is a 1972 it looks as though yours is an older unit and that may be where the differences are. As far as the fans go, one gave out on our cross country trip and I never had any issues except for climbing a 6-8% grade for 6 miles! I had to stop about 2 miles from the top and let it cool a bit. For our local camping I hardly ever use the fans as long as I am moving down the road above 40 MPH everything is great. Look forward to more pics and good luck. Robb

Mine is a 67 and I haven't messed with the opening yet. There is a fiberglass piece I need to remove and trim. I am just not sure about if I want to stock mechanical fan or do a custome radiator and fan combo. I am tempted to try and use the stock truck radiator I have

Re: Travco 270 getting a Cummins Diesel swap
Looking forward to seeing some more info here on the Travco cumins diesel swap. I am also interested in any and all details of your experience in integrating Allison transmission and the cummins diesel engine, I'm learning here, intriguing to also distinguish if we are keeping to mechanical or computer driven.\n\nBest of luck and thanks!

Re: Travco 270 getting a Cummins Diesel swap
It was a great move for us, have not looked back. I went with the old school Allison four speed to eliminate the need for a computer but I can see the benefits of the 1000 with its overdrive. I was just trying to keep mine caveman simple
thus the first gen. 12 valve and the Allison AT545. Incidentally I will be posting the original drivetrain in the for sale area if you know of anyone. Thanks Robb
