My Dad's 1970 220

While I know it's sold, is there a chance you could get some photos of the front suspension for reference? (assuming it hasn't been picked up)

Well, I semi prepped it for the new owner. Bled the brakes and got a nice full pedal. My 7yr old did a great job as a pedalman.\nI drained the gas, flushed the tank and put fresh gas in. Then the carb crapped out. it wouldn't idle. I was not happy. I pulled the jets and cleaned them and put it back. It ran even worse...Ughhhh...I did them again and viola. It's running good. Dang I hate gassers and forgot what a PIA carbruated engines are. Mine's getting a Cummins for sure...

yeah, not always a good thing...I rescued too many strays..I'm like one of those cat lady hoarders but with Travco's...

\n\nI was getting bad with motorcycle a year or so ago and finally cleaned house, though I still have two... for now \n\nIf I'm going to trouble you to take pics, could I also talk you into gettings a center of tire to center of tire measurement across the front.\n\n...if I find a 68 210, I'll probably waste no time changing over to 8 lug... as it doesn't look like any of the 68 210s have 8 lug wheels. So in theory I'm trying to look at front axle swap candidates. Some of the newer cab and chassis have GVWR of 12,500 so their front axles can certainly handle it, not to mention newer brake assemblies.

How is the wind in your 220's? This is certainly the largest vehicle I am considering... having seen more than a couple RV's blown over on the interstate in the northern part of the state. I'm not sure of the weight/size split. Would you say your 220s are more sensitive to the wind or about the same as your 270?

Actually because they are more areodynamic than even alot of newer high end rigs and combined with the weight they are very stable. The 220's handle much better being shorter. The 270's got that big ole butt hanging past the rear axles and the water tanks all the way in the back. The 270's with sway bays handle alot better than the ones without.\nThe 220 is very easy to drive. As a kid growing up my mother used to drive ours all the time.

That brings up a question I've been considering, did your family use the 220 for casual trips? Like to the zoo or local attractions? I am hoping to be able to multi-task some with whatever I get. I realize these things are big, but still. I've driven box trucks, which I'd bet are about 8' wide and longer than 20 feet. Would you say they are somewhat similar in traffic?

I have had my 270 on the road at 80mph several times now... seemed pretty stable to me. Driving around town is really not bad at all if you are comfortable driving a larger vehicle.
