ZF 8HP trans swap?

Unread post by rjsdotorg » Sun Feb 10, 2019 5:46 pm

I had heard a suggestion of stuffing a complete pair of Hemi and 8spd trans in, but what about just the trans?
The 8HP is well-regarded, and I've driven a 2016 RAM1500 a bit so I do like it.

It also isn't really any more expensive than a well-built A-727 or 47RH.
There are a lot of trans adapters out there with bellhousing and crank parts included, but, I have not seen one for the 360/413 RB to ZF8HP.
I'd be perfectly happy with just the paddle shift method.

Anyone heard of such a beast?

Sounds like a big project either way. I think that a complete engine and tranny with complete harness and computer would be the way to go here. I would prefer to use a 6.4 Hemi out of a heavy duty truck once they start showing up in wrecking yards.

Do the later (4.7 or hemi) enignes still use the old LA bell housing bolt pattern?
If so there is an adapter kit for the A518 to the 440. The A500/518 did not have the B/RB bellhousing but used the LA bell.

I don't know what the patterns are; I'd seen their site as well.
Iwa also looking at

It's likely the newer 8Hp uses an SAE pattern
